I was visiting a client the other day when it seemed like he was becoming visibly pissed off by something going on in the cubicles.
He excused himself and returned a few minutes later.
Meanwhile I noticed several reps packing up their things and leaving. Now they were visibly pissed off.
I asked what happened and he said the following which I’ll paraphrase . . .
“Every Friday it’s the same thing, they stand around and BS and don’t do any work from around 11:30 am on. I told them to take the rest of the day off, relax, recharge but the next time I see them doing that, I’m going to need to let them go and hire people who are more serious about their profession”
He went on to explain that he doesn’t expect sales reps to work themselves into a massive heart attack, he’s just sick of the place becoming a commune for slackers on Fridays.
I support what he did by the way. He did it in a professional way but there’s a much bigger picture we need to consider;
Somehow, it became alright to screw off on Fridays (especially once the warm weather hits)
Last time I checked, client and potential client needs don’t schedule themselves Monday – Thursday.
