For the most part, I like to keep things positive as I have little patience for people who go through life pissing and moaning about what isn’t right in the world.
Today, I’m going to make a minor exception and many of you aren’t going to like it.
It annoys me to no end when I hear a grown up dismiss their own SELF improvement (notice the all caps usage of “SELF”) because their boss won’t pay for it and/or let them embrace it on company time.
First of all, your boss is a cheap bastard for not investing in you. Let’s call that one as is!
My feeling is that they’re spending that money in missed opportunities and results (turnover too) but what cha gonna do?
But how dare you dismiss investing in yourself just because your boss won’t do it for you!
And the best part is that you’re also spending that money in lost opportunities and results!
It would be nice if we lived in a world where everyone’s boss thought enough of them to invest in their development but no one, and I mean no one should ever want your success more than you!
I’ve seen people who are taking 2 cruises a year, going out to dinner twice a week, buying lunch every day, Starbucks every day, buying the latest Apple product and pissing their money every which way but when it comes to investing in them self, money is suddenly tight. Oh, and they invest aggressively in their 401k in strangers but investing in them self is off limits.
I see people who are literally playing on Facebook (inviting you every other minute to play Candy Crush), watching TV multiple hours each day, taking 90 minute lunches etc but they have no time to read a book, listen to a podcast or take an online course.
At some point the lies need to stop.
That blaming of the boss thing needs to stop and . . .
We need to get serious about our craft.
