I hesitated to write this post because it’s flat out negative but . . .
Then again, I’m hoping to modify some behavior and if it means I have to offer some tough love, then tough sh*t!
Right now, the world is riding a Red Bull adrenaline rush!
Everyone is coming off the holidays rested and recharged and (being the true “Type A’s” that we are) antsy to get back to work.
Marry that in with the new car smell of a brand spanking new year and all the “This year we’re gonna kick ass” war chants and you have this tremendous amount of “Rah Rah”! The “Rah Rah” is much like the “Red Bull Adrenaline Rush” and comes complete with a debilitating crash! This happens when the bulk of the population abandons (once again) their goals and dreams around the third week in January!
But don’t worry, you can just kid yourself again next year and enjoy another 3 weeks of hope or;
You can get off your ass this year and do something about it.
Start by asking yourself the following questions . . .
1) Did I set some clear cut goals that are reality based? I’m all for having goals that stretch us and push us but sometimes we set ourselves up for failure.
2) Did I move beyond putting my goals in writing and actually devise a plan? If I devised the plan, did I actually get this stuff on the calendar or am I thinking that just wanting something will somehow lead to its manifestation?
3) Have I identified the resources that will help me attain my goals effectively?
Time Out: To embrace this step properly you need to tell your ego to go wait in the car! Seriously, it’s only getting in the way.
Sales is an awesome thing but the ego that goes with it kills many a career!
You’re ego might be telling you that you don’t need the help. I’m at this 30+ years, have read over 1100 books on the subject, have trained almost 10,000 reps and I still have a coach. And this one is so brutal that I might need to take on a therapist this year but I need someone who isn’t afraid to call me out and kick my ass.
Aside from having a coach, I read daily and carve aside time in the evening and on weekends to learn the things I need to learn in order to make my goals a reality!
How about you?
4) Have I identified the obstacles that can (and will) attempt to get in my way? Things like attitude, negativity and negative people, fear, procrastination, ego, managing your time etc.
So just to be clear . . .
I think it’s awesome that the world is hopeful and optimistic for the year ahead.
I love the positive vibes of the “We’re gonna kick ass in 2015!” and the “This year is gonna be awesome”
That’s the easy part!
The harder part is having the plan and the commitment to move beyond the third week in January!
Or sadly, for many people, your “Red Bull Adrenaline Rush” crashed earlier today when you simply went back to the mediocrity you were trying to change.
All I’m saying is perhaps it’s time?
