So here we are again, rapidly approaching year end.
For those of us in sales, that means a final push in order to finish the year STRONG!
If only it were that simple!
Between now and year end, there are a few obstacles you’re going to have to navigate.
It’s an election year here in the US. That means that an already distracted buyer might be a tad fixated on the election and even embracing a “Wait and see” attitude before making any major purchases.
You have several holidays like Election Day, Veteran’s Day.
Time Out: Even though most US businesses won’t be closed those days, kids are off from school and that means parents will be taking off of work.
You have Thanksgiving which is really more than a 4 day weekend. People tend to “mentally check out” before and after which might cost you a week
And then you have . . .
A serious slow down (for many businesses) between Thanksgiving and January 1st.
Buyers are going to “mentally check out” and forgive me for suggesting this, but you might be inclined to as well.
Add those things up, and you really DON’T have as much time as you would think to make it happen.
So what do you do about it?
First, I would pick up the pace NOW and since you don’t have access to a time machine, make a note to start your “year end sprint” much earlier next year. I started mine back in July.
Second, learn to LEVERAGE the things you might view as obstacles.
For example, the holidays can slow us down, but we can also leverage them by changing up our messaging, dropping by more local businesses, offering ideas and tips that help our clients/prospects during the holiday season.
Third, be prepared for people to blow off seeing you and or making decisions until after the new year.
In other words . . .
What are you going to say when you try to make an appointment with a potential client and they say “Call me back after the holidays?
What can you say/do to create a sense of urgency, with the deals you’re working right now, to close BEFORE year end?
