Playlist For The Aspiring Sales Rock Star!

Posted February 16, 2010

A few months back, I had written a post on the power of music as a trigger for peak performance states.  It was not only a fun post to write, you all suggested so many great songs that should be added to ones “Playlist For Success”.  I decided to kick it up a notch and and open up several discussions on Linkedin in search of that perfect playlist.

You spoke. I listened and even hummed along in many cases!

My good friend Keri Rasmussen, from our Linkedin group,  suggested that I put this together into some sort of E-Book.  After months of procrastinating  (I’m human too ya know) Here it is,  a list of over 200 songs to help induce your state and help you whistle while you work (or even fist pump while you sell).

For those of you who didn’t catch the original post, I’ve updated it and included it in the E-Book along with a few tips that can help you improve performance.

Here’s the link for the Free E-Book!

  1. Too funny! I used to have a Heavy D & The Boyz TAPE in my car (how old am I?!?!) that I played before I went door-to-door cold calling (again, how old am I?). I used to do 75-100 cold calls a day! Those were the days….
    Love the playlist.

  2. @ Jill: When I talk about the tapes I used to have, I have this feeling someone is thinking “What’s a tape?” 🙂

At 75-100 cold calls daily, you are the one that rocks!

Thanks for stopping by and continued success with your fabulous website http://meetingtowin.com

    Rock on my friend!

  3. Ah, the ‘profiling’ listings are helpful . . . 😉

“Any song by Dick Dale”—I hope you’ve seen (er; heard? FELT?) him live. Loudest sound I’ve ever experienced, and I used to live near an airport.

I’m a musician and songwriter, yet somehow I’ve totally failed to use music as a tool in my business. That’s gonna change.

  4. Great eBook, I’ve always felt motivated by music and the need to listen to something every day – this eBook will keep me going for ages. Loves the tips for different music/different situations at the end aswell.

    Thanks again.

  5. Appreciate the list Paul – though I’ll have to say that many of the names mean nothing to me – I usually just recognize the tune. Love that you had The Beatles – Money on the list. Would suggest you to get into a little Will Hoge. His CD, Blackbird on a Lonely Wire is the BOMB! If you want a song off of that CD to get feeling like you just had 8 cups of strong coffee, listen to All Night Long. Also – would like to have seen Mac the Knife on the list. It always gets me a little cranked up!

  6. Not sure I saw them in there but two of mine have to be “Free Bird” by Lynard Skynard and “Stranglehold” by Ted Nugent. Both get me in a confident and secure state of mind.

  7. @ Joel D Canfield: I haven’t seen him live and hear he still kicks ass even though he must be in his late 60’s or 70’s. A must for my “To Do” list!

@ Kim: Thanks and I must confess that it was a blast compiling it!

@ Bob: I’m always open to suggestions on great music to listen to and will check that out! Gracias!

@Jennifer Gordon: I dropped the ball especially with regard to Freebird. By the way, I took my sons to see Skynard this summer and it was just awesome. I’ll never forget listening to Freebird live, looking over at my sons and saying “this is freakin cool” Why does it always smell like someone is burning leaves at those outdoor concerts Jennifer? 🙂

Thank you all for stopping by to comment. I can see already that we will have to update the playlist at some point but for now . . .

    Let’s go sell something!

    Respectfully,

  8. OMG! This book is so awesome. I was glad to see some of my 80’s faves like “Everybody Dance Now” from C&C Music Factory and “Get It On” (Bang A Gong) from Power Station. They always make me smile. This list could also make a great workout list on my ipod! Rock on Paul!

  9. Thanks for the great playlist I am updating my ipod as I type. There is nothing like a great song to send you to that special place. My “Eddy Murphy moment” was belting out Tracy Chapman’s “Give Me One Reason” at a stop sign with windows closed but my sun roof wide open much to the delight of the car next to me. Still makes me smile…….. Waiting with anticipation for the release of your book.

    Shawn

  10. @ Marci Reynolds: Double rock horns to you Marci! I dropped the ball by neglecting to include Papa Roach but there’s always next time 🙂

@ Stephanie Stone: That’s an awesome addition for sure. Thank you Stephanie!

@ Shawn: I feel your pain dude. Is there help available for idiots like us?

Been getting lots of emails from folks today regarding this post and just having way too much fun gang . . . Thanks!

    Respectfully,
    Paul Castain

  11. In the spirit of a random thought, I was always a fan of Yoda’s and that pic of him just brought him up a few notches on the bad ass scale!

Don’t know why, but had this overwhelming need to share that with you all.

    Paul

  12. Great list! To establish oneself and to achieve success, especially early on in the career of a professional salesperson, one must be willing to work myriad hours. Therefore, I would add All Day And All Of The Night by The Kinks.

  13. @ Shawn: Ah the classic dude/dudette mix up. All I can say at a moment like this is “Oops”. Rock on girlfriend!

@ Tom Mangini: Perfect addition Tom . . . spot on!

    Thank you both!

    Respectfully,
    Paul Castain

  14. Paul, great website! I just found out that you launched this a couple weeks ago. Great job and thanks for the playlist. I will put this on my iPod and try it out next time I rock out on the way to a client’s!

  15. You are too cool! I always enjoy whatever I receive from you. Thanks for all your effort, and please keep it coming. God bless & be well…

  16. @ Fiona: Thanks for the kind words. I need to get out to California again soon. Kind regards to Tarek and the team I know too many to list them all 🙂

@ Kelley Robertson: The fact that you quoted Wayne’s World on my blog just makes you that much cooler! One day you and I will get some wigs and drive around Toronto listening to Bohemian Rhapsody bopping our heads. Rock on!

@ Rich Parr: I love to hear that kind of stuff. Giving, unconditionally has made me very wealthy indeed.

Double arm flailing, exaggerated, dramatic rock horns to all!

The artist formerly known as “Uncle Paul”

  17. Paul,

Thanks for compiling all this. Any list with both Joe Satriani and Steve Vai on it is killer in my book.

    Beth

  18. @ Beth Chapmon: As a guitarist of 30 years I may have leaned a tad heavy on the guitar oriented music, but kick ass is kick ass and those two guys are sick, possessed even.

    Rock on!
