After almost 2 months of working from home, I think it’s safe to say that we miss the human to human interaction we once had, more specifically;
Those little conversations we’d all have on the Starbucks line, in the elevator, or how about with our coworkers in the break room?
How about those conversations we all had during local networking events, industry events, trade shows, or even;
With the Uber driver on our way to the airport?
Add it all up; and;
It feels like someone ran off with a huge chunk of the social part of our day to day!
I have a tip for you that I’ve actually been offering, on this blog, since 2010, and;
TODAY, it’s more valuable than it EVER was!
Why?
Because it involves something that people crave right now;
A human to human conversation!
Before I share it with you, I want you to know that this one simple thing helped me launch my business and land my first 45 clients, within 30 days back in 2011, and;
It’s generated an average of 2-3 new clients per month, and countless referrals leading up to Covid-19, and 3-4 new clients per month during Covid-19.
Why would it increase during Covid-19?
Once again, because it involves human to human conversation.
Ready?
1) Go into your list of LinkedIn connections. Start alphabetically, and pick at least 3 people you HAVEN’T spoken with yet. Not just anyone, people that you were hoping to do business with.
2) Send them a brief email letting them know that you’re embarrassed that you’ve never reached out to get to know them better and you’d like to change that. Give them two scheduling options (like you would during a cold call) and that’s it.
3) Once you get them on the phone, DON’T launch into a sales pitch. Instead, show a genuine interest in getting to know the other person. For once, we have an instant ice-breaker with everything going on in the world right now.
Forgive me for saying this but;
But when you ask how someone is doing right now, ask because you genuinely give a sh*t, not because you need to check off a box!
4) At the end of the call, ask them if there is anyone you should be on the look out for, that they’d be interested in connecting with.
5) Ask them who they know who might be able to utilize your product or service.
That’s it! Short, sweet, and REALLY effective!
How?
Aside from that “human to human” thing everyone is craving right now;
You’re doing something that nobody does on LinkedIn . . . Getting to know each other via the ancient art of a phone call.
Next, you’re finding out how you can help each other (Kind of important right now, no?).
You have a way of asking for a referral WITHOUT the conversation getting weird or salesy.
Oh, and you have created a referral engine and something really cool;
You’ve created a relationship where its much easier to ask each other for help at some point in the future.
There you have it folks;
Something so simple that;
You might be inclined to blow it off because;
It isn’t the big sexy answer you’ve been looking for!
