I think we might be at the point where every sales trainer loves to talk about how professional sports teams review “game tape”.
My concern is that there aren’t many of them telling you HOW YOU Can use “game tape”.
Let’s go there!
The first thing you can do is;
Tape your end of your prospecting calls, client follow-up calls, etc., and review them off hours.
Listen to the actual words you use AND the way you delivered them.
Do you sound confident?
Competent?
Could you have made some of your points in a more convincing way?
Did you do anything that brought on skepticism, doubt, and objections?
Did you interrupt?
Was there a point in that call where you lost control? If so, in what ways could you have maintained and/or regained control?
Could you have asked BETTER questions?
Listened more?
Perhaps you interrupted?
Did you miss something you shouldn’t have?
How about filler words like “You know” “Um” “Basically”. I’m a recovering “Youknowaholic” by the way.
What went well?
What could you have done better?
In what ways would go about this call differently if you were given a “Do-over”?
Record Your Demos.
This one happens to be one of my favorites because not only can YOU benefit from this but your entire team can too!
How?
First, its a great thing to review in your sales meetings. Everyone can learn from each other and the feedback is priceless.
Time Out: You know those ROCK STARS on your team? Wouldn’t it be awesome to have a glimpse into what they’re saying and doing to attain their rock stardom? This can help!
You can send a link to your boss and ask for feedback. Unless your boss is a real dick you really need to get over yourself on this one.
You can send a link to your sales coach and review in one of your sessions.
New reps have training material they can review WITHOUT their manager having to be there holding their hand.
Note To Sales Leadership . . .
Please tell me you have things like this in your training arsenal?
If not, please email me immediately so we can discuss how to onboard your reps more effectively paul@yoursalesplaybook.com
Here’s the thing . . .
If you and I want to kick ass in sales, we absolutely HAVE to become humble students of our craft and;
That means that we need to raise our awareness of HOW we’re playing the game.
Just out of curiosity, how many of your competitors do you think are actually doing this versus dismissing it as some “Sales 101” thing?
How would you feel about going up against a sales rep who’s been adhering to this practice while you were busy thinking that you had it all figured out?
