A Sobering Thought About Prospecting

I remember getting a cold call from someone and they asked me if they could have “27 seconds” of my time.

I remember thinking, “This is getting really old with this 27-second thing”;

That was at least 4 years ago and sales reps still think this is fresh and exciting.

I remember getting a cold email from someone with the subject line “ABC Company and Castain Training Systems” and I thought “This type of subject line is getting beaten to death”;

That was probably 5 years ago and it continues to this very day.

I remember someone slamming my inbox with cold emails for like 2 weeks, and then came the standard “breakup email”

I remember thinking, “This one is getting as played out as sending someone an email with possible reasons for their lack of response and including ‘abducted by aliens’ “

That was 7 years ago and it’s only gotten worse since then!

Telling someone you’re going to “Close their file” if you don’t hear back from them?

Someone in one of my corporate training classes at CGX said that to me back in 2007 and I almost threw up in my mouth having already heard that one way too many times.

17 years later and people are still using that monkey-style kung fu on prospects.

One last one;

I remember getting so annoyed by the lack of creativity of “bump emails” that I wrote about it 8 years ago on my blog;

Guess what? It’s gotten worse.

And now we arrive at the point;

Your prospects are sick of this sh*t too and they’ve had plenty of time to formulate effective rebuttals.

You absolutely MUST change up your approaches, scripts, templates, and tactics, if you want to keep your prospects interested, and;

I believe you need to keep things fresh for YOU to stay interested in prospecting.
