There hasn’t been a Father’s Day since 1988 where I didn’t miss my Dad.
And while I could give you a whole laundry list of things that made my Dad special, the thing I miss the most was his unconditional love for his children.
No matter how much I screwed up, or how much I pushed back, the love was there.
Whenever I made a poor choice . . . the love was there
Even when I was guilty of the worst sin a Castain could commit (buying chunky peanut butter instead of creamy) . . . the love was there but he was good and pissed at me for several hours 🙂
Side Note: I could have called my Dad at 3:00 am and asked him to bail me out of jail and even that would have gone down better than screwing with that man’s peanut butter!
Peanut Butter atrocities against humanity aside, the best part of that love, was that I never had an exclusive on it.
It was divided equally amongst 6 kids!
So Dads . . . let’s not ever get so caught up in life, our business or in a moment of anger that our children ever doubt our love.
And for those of you who have lost your Dad and ever wonder how he might look upon you today and what you’ve become . . .
Unconditional love transcends all circumstance!
So somewhere between getting that brand spankin new tie, that homemade card from the kids (I freakin miss those by the way) or torching up the bbq, lets continue our pledge as Fathers to make it unconditional!
Wishing all our Dads and Father figures an unconditionally awesome Father’s Day.
Peace!
Paul Castain is the proud Dad of 3 amazing kids who aren’t allowed to grow up . . . ever!
