Imagine a potential client showing up at your shop only to shake their head and walk away.
In their defense they tried the door . . . and it was locked.
The blinds were drawn but they thought they saw movement.
Then they realize its like 11:00 am and you even forgot to flip the little sign over that says closed . . . to open!
Somewhere in their 60,000 + plus daily thoughts there must be at least one that says “So is this dude open or not?”
Sounds crazy . . . but lots of people are doing the equivalent on Linkedin!
It happens when someone visits your profile and sees that you’re also on Twitter according to the link you have there. They click on it only to see that you haven’t been there since 1999.
So are you there or not?
Not keen on the Twitterati?
Perhaps this can also happen when they click on your blog that you haven’t done anything with since January of this year!
Are you still blogging or not?
If you aren’t updating you links . . . you haven’t flip the “open for business” sign.
Same thing with little to no activity on your account!
If your status update hasn’t been updated since God knows when, you haven’t flipped the sign to “Open”
These things always work so much better when you let folks know, by your actions and efforts . . . That you’re open and interacting with your audience.
Oh, and don’t expect your network to know you exist or even want to interact with you . . . if you haven’t told them you’re open for business!
I hope you’ll join me on Tuesday October 25th from 1:30 pm EST to 2:15 pm EST for my webinar “Networking Socially Through Linkedin” Click here for all the juicy details!

Man you are pumping out the blogs today! My new Website will have a Blog page that I will start posting to so others can see my opinion on everything from how you treat Customers to how you can help them make their jobs easier.
I definitely need to show folks I can be a thought leader as well.
Thanks again for a great post!
Cheers,
Larry
Sounds like some exciting stuff on your end Larry. I’m very excited for you!
Thanks for stopping by and for retweeting this on Twitter last night!
Nothing says stagnant like a blog that hasn’t been updated in forever. The twitter account if they are not going to use, wish they would close it. Social media takes effort to do it right and Paul, appreciate you helping us along the way.
This certainly does take effort Jacob and it takes such little effort to remove something that doesn’t serve us (like a link to a blog that’s no longer active etc)
Thanks for stopping by!
I am guilty of it myslef, with my newsletter…My blog and twitter and linked in get updated weekly, but not so with my newsletter. Thanks for the wakeup call. And I swear i don’t know how you do it, blogging daily. I have enough trouble doing it weekly! You are awesome, Jedi!
Always a pleasure Kelly and the answer is . . . lot’s and lot’s of coffee 🙂
Thanks for stopping by and have an awesome day!
Paul, Thanks for continuing to point out the obvious, you have pushed me to be better with my communications. Your insight is inspiring and a enjoy. You have made me continually want to be a better salesperson.
That was an awesome note Jay . . . Thank you Sir!
“…since 1999.” LOL!
I didn’t think anyone would catch that one Traci 🙂
Rock on!
Guilty!
I’ve been guilty of too when I first started.
Today is always a great day to turn things around!
Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and comment!
Thanks Paul. I am appropriately chastised. 🙁
I re-posted, re-tweeted and sent a big reminder to myself!!
That’s what I’m talkin ’bout Christi!
Thanks for stopping by!
One day I’ll share with you all the dopey stuff I’ve done and you’ll soon realize whatever you’ve done or failed to do is nothing compared to my early stupidity when I first started out 🙂
Thanks for stopping by Lisa!
I think we might be neck and neck. I really do appreciate the advise though Paul. I need it!
🙂
Good point shame on me.
We’ll figure it all out Scott!
I guess the first step is awareness!
Thanks for stopping by!
Wow – reality check! Duly noted…
Thank you for the perfect analogy and inspiration to flip the sign!
Let’s get “flipping”!
Thanks for stopping by Rachel!
