The Decision We Always Regret

Posted March 26, 2012

The decision we always regret is the one we fail to make.

On the surface its because we’ve put it off.

Below the surface its because we’re scared.

Scared of trying . . . only to fail.

Scared of leaving our safe harbor.

Scared of the unknown?

This whole business of non decision is a bit of a charade in that . . .

When we keep putting off a decision

We’ve actually decided.

For many years (actually too many years) of my adult life I had this feeling that I could only describe as an “urgency to do something”

It troubled me that I didn’t know what.

I thought about it, prayed on it and . . .

It seemed like forever and still I couldn’t define the feeling nor could I articulate it but . . .

Something was there that almost seemed to be begging for my attention.

It was this time last year that I realized it was my own struggle with non decision!

So I made my decision to start my business and that crazy feeling I carried for so many years . . . disappeared!

Truth be told, it was replaced with a “I think I might sh*t my pants” feeling due to the risks I now take, but it makes me stronger.

And you know what . . . there’s this tremendous peace in knowing that I decided to decide!

Non decisions are not just about launching businesses or pursuing our dreams but . . . they do have this incredible tendency to help us build muscles that enable us to get really good at those non decisions.

Please do me a favor today.

Pause for a moment when you finish today’s blog post.

Ask yourself “What decisions am I avoiding?

Then make some decisions and write down today’s date.

It will be a special day because it’s the day you put a face to something you weren’t articulating or dealing with and . . .

Its also the date that you began to liberate your life!

Oh, and please don’t run off and make an abrupt, hasty decision based on what you’ve read today.

That’s when you earn the title of “dumb ass” but . . .

By all means, decide and then take a step towards the realization of that decision.

Forgive me for sharing a quote that I’ve probably shared way too many times, but my blog, my rules . . .

“As it turns out, NOW is the moment you’ve been waiting for” Lucinda Williams

Peace!
