Let’s face it . . .there are rules and protocols for just about everything.
It doesn’t mean that you have to play along!
When I first showed up with my blog in November of 2008, I caught a lot of criticism about how I went about presenting my methodology.
I was told it wasn’t sophisticated enough
I was told that I was irreverent
I was told that I was sharing too many personal things on a business blog
Too many Star Wars references
Too many rock star references
That I was fixated on the “bright shininess” of all this social networking stuff
Not enough traditional selling tips
Blah, Blah freakin Blah
Since then, I’ve grown the heck out of my Sales Playbook community because . . .
I don’t talk over everyone’s head
I’m willing to share “Paul . . . warts and all” with my community
I have the balls to speak the way I want to speak (inclusive of borderline irreverent lingo, rock star references and a scary obsession for Jedis and such)
I’m willing to break the rules (in controlled doses) where and when I feel it might just be a breath of fresh air.
Its not about being quirky for the sake of quirky or an inner need to get attention . . . it’s quite simply because the other way bores the sh*t out me and I have a really bad poker face!
People would see right through that charade!

Not everyone will appreciate your approach or your “style” but . . .
It might mean that we have to take it down a notch! It might even mean that we’re going about it all wrong . . .
Other times it means that you’re presenting “YOU” to people who are just not going to appreciate “YOU” . . .
and that really sucks because . . .
meanwhile, there are people who are waiting desperately for someone(like you) to come along and offer something fresh!
You know what folks, its highly probable that you’ve encountered the old “that’s not the way its done” speech . . .
That doesn’t mean you have to always play along!
Take a good look at your industry and all the “rules” and protocols. Perhaps there’s an opportunity to do some reinventing, some rewriting and somehow become a purveyor of a much needed . . .
Breath of fresh air!
What say you . . . Can this approach work?
