The Sales “Courtship”

What would you do if someone you know and respected asked you . . .

“How long before 2 people should fall in love?”

Sensing your confusion, they attempt to clarify by asking . . .

“Is it after at least 14 weeks of dating?”

“Is it after at least 10 dates?”

“Is it after at least $1427.13 has been spent in flowers, candy, cards etc?”

I’ll spare you the rest of this because quite frankly it’s a really silly exchange.

Just for the heck of it (and to humor your Uncle Paul) what makes this silly?

Gold star if your answer even hinted around the fact that we are trying to put rules to when “love” enters the relationship . . .

It happens when it happens!

If you found yourself nodding your head in agreement or even engaging in a “No sh*t Sherlock” moment then riddle me this . . .

If we know this, then why don’t we approach our prospects this way?

I would venture to say that “love” for them happens very much the same way and you and I really can’t define when that “love” is supposed to happen so . . .

We simply must have the PATIENCE to engage in a courtship while . . .

Having the urgency to work at it regularly!

Too many times, we show up hot and heavy, then disappear!

Then we’re back for 3 weeks of intense “You wanna marry me” type encounters then we’re gone for 60 days . . . then we’re back, we’re gone, we’re back, we’re gone etc.

When was the last time you thought about and I mean really thought about how you will “court” your prospects . . .

Daily

Weekly

Monthly

Quarterly

Because if all you have are a bunch of “I’m calling to check in” moments . . .

Your prospect is most probably checking out of the courtship!

Oh, and one more thing . . . once they agree to marry you . . .

Remember that the courtship never ends!
