There are two email tactics that I believe will send the WRONG message right now.
The first one is the old “leave a voicemail and follow it up, IMMEDIATELY with an email mentioning the voicemail.“
How does this send the wrong message?
Well for starters you just interrupted someone (from what they’re doing) twice within minutes.
It comes across as needy and desperate, and;
With all the recent events;
It can make you look tone deaf!
For those of you who feel that an adult needs a reminder that they have a voicemail;
Send the reminder the next day or just say “f*ck it” and just try another form of outreach, another day.
The other email tactic I would avoid is a certain type of “bump” email.
A “bump” email is an email that you can create from an app, chrome extension, etc, that will automatically forward your last email with a message of your choosing.
Example: Let’s say I send you an email today. I can forward that same email to you next Friday with a note “Any thoughts on this?” or “Wanted to give this a bump (see what I did there) to the top of your inbox”.
For the record, I’ve always hated this approach because;
Most people keep forwarding the same sh*tty email and it put’s forth this vibe of “Hey dumbass, how about a response?”
Why do I think it’s a bad idea right now?
Once again;
It makes you look needy.
It makes you look desperate, and;
With all the recent events, it can make you look tone deaf.
How?
Because the tactic has this way of saying “Hey dumbass, how about a response?” and right now, your prospect is thinking about other, more important things.
People have a lot on their mind right now.
No one is telling you NOT to sell, but;
Carpet bombing your prospect with messaging and continuing to basically ask for a response;
Really should go on the back burner.
And besides, those things were never a good look for you anyway!
