Since July 4th is also known as “Independence Day” here in the US, I thought it might be cool to give you a little nudge.
The kind of nudge designed to move you a few steps closer to declaring your own personal independence!
1) Get back to something that you loved to do but got away from: I stopped taking guitar lessons back in 1989 and it bothered the hell out of me for more than 2 decades. In 2010, I declared my independence, found my old teacher, and got back to something I truly love. Balance was restored in Uncle Paul’s universe. How about you? Its never too late my friend!
2) Do Something Just For YOU! When was the last time you treated yourself? For those of you who are tight on money (I’ve been there too) this doesn’t have to cost anything. How about a quiet walk or some uninterrupted thinking time to collect your thoughts? You could even declare your independence by doing something to improve yourself or make you stronger (mentally, physically and spiritually) You can’t begin to give to others until you have given to yourself! Don’t ever forget that!
3) Take A Step Towards The Dream You’ve Been Putting Off! I had an overwhelming urge to get back into business for myself. For more than 6 years I did an incredible job of putting it off and as a result I was miserable. In March 2011 I declared my independence, left the company where I had worked for the last four years and launched Castain Training Systems. Everyone who knows me has been commenting on how much more at ease I seem. Probably because I know now that I won’t go to my grave with my music still in my head. Be sure to declare your independence, from that little voice inside of you, that tells you that you aren’t good enough to pursue your dream, by telling it to “Shush”.
Somewhere between the parties, the fireworks and chilling with family and friends, I’d like you to do two things . . .
First, respect those who have fought (and continue to fight) for our freedom by raising a glass, saying a prayer or offering a moment of silence then . . .
Make a commitment to yourself to declare your own independence, in a way that enables you to go back to work, in full control of your destiny!
