A HUGE Prospecting Mistake!

There’s something that ruins your prospecting efforts and it’s so subtle, it usually goes undetected!

“Backing yourself into a corner” is an idiom that means to put yourself in a difficult situation where you have no good way out.

Sometimes we inadvertently do this in our cold calls and emails. 

Here’s where it happens;

Someone tells you to send information and you come back at them with the response “Whenever someone asks me to send them information it’s typically because they really aren’t interested and want to let me down easy, if that’s the case, you can just tell me not interested”

All this does, is make it super easy to get you off their phone with a bright shiny “No thanks” as your parting gift.

How about responding to the “Not interested” objection by tapping out and politely exiting the call? You’ve given yourself nowhere to go when you give up like that.

Time out! This is by far, the most common phone objection, and most reps either submit or come back with something that “paints themself into a corner”.

Case in point;

Some sales reps were trained to reply with a politer version of “Not interested in what? I haven’t told you about _______” In what world does calling a potential client out like that end well for the sales rep?

Here’s another way to “paint yourself into a corner”;

Any form of a “breakup” email telling them, in essence, that this is the last time you will contact them.

Please understand that the person reading that is thinking “Awesome, all I have to do is ignore this person one more time and they go away. And the best part is that I don’t have to tell them to f off”

Don’t ever make a move when you’re prospecting that limits your options going forward.
