Wednesday evening on a busy San Francisco street. We’re all rushing to our destinations, oblivious to our surroundings.
A small crowd is gathered around a young man, gracing the keys of a piano with an old rag time song.
But there is something different about this dude.
He is attacking those keys with passion.
He is deep in an emotional trance.
He isn’t just playing notes . . . he’s sharing his soul!
There’s this one point of the song where he goes ballistic on those keys and the crowd goes wild! By any mortal standard, this would be the finale . . . but it isn’t.
More emotion, intensity and passion follow.
His fingers fly faster
The crowd is under his spell
I found myself struggling to articulate what was happening and what made this person so unique.
Then it hit me . . . he was sharing his art with us as if it were “the last time”.
As if there would not be another moment in time like that one.
And quite literally, he played that piece as if his last request, before leaving this world was to share his art one last time.
A former guitar teacher of mine once told me “Every time you pick up your guitar, play it as if it were the last time”
Today is all about sharing what you do as if it were art . . . because it is!
Its also about sharing it with all the passion and intention as if it were . . .
The last time!
