As a small business owner. I am the recipient of mucho emails.
Some of them are decent but yet typical (we’ll talk about those another day)
And some of them are just flat out awful!
But there’s one email habit that absolutely gets on my nerves!
Its when someone sends me an email, trying to sell me something, and then a few days later, forwards me the same sh*tty email as if to say “Hey idiot how about a response”.
Believe it or not, I’ve even had several people forward the forwarded message.
Don’t get me wrong, the one’s I receive, usually contain a note on the forwarded message, but it’s still the same message.
And just to be clear, prior to the original email, I’ve had no contact with them.
Forgive me for being blunt, but . . .
1) If I didn’t respond to your first message, why would you send me the same, identical message?
2) Because you sent me the same, identical message, you’re boring me.
3) Because you’re boring me, you’ve conditioned me to delete your next email, without opening it. I mean, if all you’re doing is forwarding me the last two emails you sent me, why would I waste my time thinking “Three’s a charm”. Worse yet, why would you think that?
This is going to be harsh but . . .
You are not owed a response when you approach a potential client.
It would be nice if we lived in a world where all of us (you too by the way) responded at the level some would call “common courtesy” but we don’t so . . .
Get over it!
Also, some of you are taking the persistence thing too far.
As a business owner, I admire persistence but;
Let’s not confuse persistence with being a pain in the ass!
“Stop trying to beat your potential clients into submission”
One more thing . . .
Decision makers have some very serious challenges.
Some of these challenges require your expertise.
If you fail to demonstrate that expertise and engage in behavior that shows a potential client that you’re incapable of presenting ideas, creativity, ingenuity etc . . .
Then you failed to get their attention!
And that’s a shame because . . .
You could have helped them!
There are other issues with email . . .
Like words people use in subject lines that either alert the recipient that you’re trying to sell them something or their spam filter that you’re trying to do the same.
Subject line tactics that are shady at best.
Email opening paragraphs that are not only typical but immediately get you deleted.
Call to actions that are anything but etc
We’re going to be tackling all of these as well as the following in Session 2 of How To Hunt More Effectively course
- Two, non negotiable things you MUST do BEFORE sending an email to a prospect!
- 4 Ways to get email addresses without spending a dime on lists.
- 5 Ways to capture someone’s attention in the subject line
- How to leverage internal/external “peer pressure” to pique interest
- 10 ways to make your email less salesy and a hell of a lot more interesting
- How to dramatically increase your response rates and . . .
- How one really simple thing increased my response rate by over 400%
In addition to the email session, we’re going to be talking about how to warm up your cold calls, get more referrals, how you can use snail mail and Fed Ex more effectively. We’re going to talk about how to use LinkedIn and how you can network offline too. We’ll talk about how you can use creativity to capture the attention of a decision maker and then I’m going to show you how you can put over 100 ways to approach a potential client into an effective communication map!
This course ISN’T going to be filled with a bunch of theory, far from it!
I’m going to give you actual examples of what your peers are doing to ROCK their sales.
I’m also going to take you backstage and show you, exactly, what I’m doing to land the deals I’ve been landing!
Each session will contain action items so you can immediately bring the ideas out to the field!
The only catch, is that if you would like to join us, the deadline is here because we launch this Wednesday, the 23rd.
Time Out! We deliver each session live and then send out the recording (slides and all) within about 24 hours. This way you can go at your own pace or attend live and enjoy the reinforcement of the recording.
So here’s a link to a complete course outline, details and pricing.
