I remember, so vividly, trying to keep it together when I watched the end of “Saving Private Ryan”. You know, that scene when he’s older and he’s at Captain John Miller’s grave?
He’s having a moment when he’s trying to say “Thank You” for the gift that his former Captain gave him . . .
at the expense of his own!
He says something along the lines of . . .
“Everyday I think about what you said to me that day on the bridge. I’ve tried to live my life the best I could. I hope that was enough for all you have done for me.”
He stands up as his wife approaches and asks her . . .
“Tell me I’ve led a good life. Tell me I’m a good man”
It was a moment when he was appreciative and in need of validation that he not only lived a good life . . .
He lived the best life possible!
Oh, and the words that his Captain said to him that day, on the bridge, moments before he died was . . .
“Earn This!”
So I’ll ask you the same question that I’ve been asking myself . . .
“Have you ‘earned’ this?”
We “earn” this by living our best life possible.
Are you?
Peace!
