So many times, we limit our options because we embrace an extreme end of the options continuum.
Take holidays and peak vacation times (like this week here in the U.S.)
One extreme is that people won’t work at all.
The other extreme is that they keep “hustling” never giving themselves the gift of slowing down and recharging.
Here are a few simple compromises that will allow you to do slow down AND enjoy some much needed “R&R”
- Preschedule An Email Blast. I had an email blast go out on July 3rd while I was enjoying the day with my daughter. Oh, and I sold two coaching packages later that day as a result.
- Preschedule Your LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook Updates. I use BufferApp. There’s a free version that allows you to preschedule up to 5 updates. There’s also a paid version ($10 per month) where you can pre-schedule up to 100 updates. While I was spending the day with my daughter, I was keeping up my appearances on LinkedIn. Today, while I’m cannon balling into a bottle of Jose Cuervo, I’ll be keeping up my appearances.
- Preschedule Your Blog Content. I wrote this blog post early Sunday morning in anticipation of the holiday.
- Blend Activities. I take 5-6 camping trips EVERY summer without fail. The way I’m able to do this is by doing some of my calls from the campground which is way more awesome than making those calls from my office. I’ll enjoy the summer from my patio while making calls, having coaching sessions etc. I’ll grab a thermos of coffee and do some of my administrative work watching the sunrise at the beach. And YES, we absolutely MUST have times where we totally unplug too!
