I constantly see people on LinkedIn boasting about how many “connections” they have or putting things out there that read “Connect with me I have 20,000 direct contacts”
On Twitter I’ll see things that read “Who will be my 1,000 follower?” In fact, I think that was me at one point.
Note: How is that valuable for people in your audience to read?
Don’t even get me started about Klout and Klout scores . . . I could truly care less!
Before I go on, I want you to know that I’m writing this today as a recovering “Numberaholic”. Just yesterday, on Facebook I was having a proud moment regarding how many people are now in our Sales Playbook Linkedin group!
Here’s a better strategy . . . make a note to give a sh*t about that stuff and then . . .
Show up . . . Consistently
Deliver
Care about others
Interact, don’t just broadcast
Be helpful
Be concerned about what pops up about you when people Google you (and they will).
Be concerned about what people say about you behind your back because that’s when your personal brand is put to the test. Example “What do you know about this Castain fellar?”
Focus your energy on the 6 Judgments that people will make when evaluating you and brand YOU!
How you look
How you act
What you say
How you say it
Where you say it
With whom you say it
Time Out! As someone who has a large Twitter following, mucho Linkedin connections etc, I will tell you that it doesn’t hurt but . . .
These other things are the things that truly matter and (get this) if you take good care of them, the numbers seem to take care of themselves.
I talk about this stuff in great detail in my 90 page E-Book which you can check out here
