A few weeks ago I found myself rushing to catch a train to New York City. The funny part was that I was not only early, I now found myself rushing to catch the earlier train.
All so I could get to the city even earlier . . . to wait to meet a friend for lunch.
While rushing into the train station, I spotted a senior citizen who must have been in her early 80’s. Needless to say, she moved a bit slower than the crowd wanted her to, but everyone took a chill while she fumbled for her wallet.
When it was my turn to buy my ticket I noticed she was off to the side, getting her things together and still moving quite slowly.
As I started to head toward the train, there was a split second where I thought maybe I should stop and help her but I was in rush mode and got back to the business of rushing.
I sat in the train justifying what I had done and quite frankly, I can still justify that situation a million different ways, but the truth is that I screwed up!
I had a moment to be human and I blew it!
Human moments come in many shapes and sizes.
It could be acknowledging another human being and saying hello.
It could be silent acknowledgement with a smile 🙂
Its stopping to help someone who obviously needs your help.
Its stepping up to the plate and doing the right thing when the moment presents itself.
So for a guy who talks about Jedi mastery and conquering the world at home . . .I share my “note to self” with you and invite you . . .
To slow down and conquer the world as a human being!
