I remember the day when I regained my confidence enough to set a goal that would take a tremendous amount of effort to attain.
It was a goal that I literally threw away when I had mentally given up.
It was that trip to Disney I wanted to take my family on one day.
The only problem is that when you are knee deep in debt and are still hurting from the hiney whuppin . . . its just easier to focus on if you’ll have enough money to put meat in the pasta you’ve been eating.
I took a picture of the Magic Kingdom castle and set it on my desk and then I began a very long journey.
I began to visit that castle as an unpaid guest via my imagination; then I would come home and bust my rear end.
I downloaded more pictures and made them my screen saver.
It was the first and last thing I looked at each day.
When someone rejected me . . . I looked at that picture.
When I sold something, anything . . . I looked at that picture and reminded myself that I was getting closer.
Then I began to mentally “scout ahead” to that castle and began to picture my kids smiling and the look of pride on my face knowing that I just made the comeback of the century!
I smelled the popcorn and the cotton candy
I heard the carnival type music and the sounds of my children’s laughter.
Then I’d come home and bust my rear.
10 years later, I went through the gates again but this time as a paid guest.
We stayed for 10 days at the Polynesian, took the 3 day cruise and paid cash and as manly as I’d like to think I am . . . I had a really hard time keeping it together.
Denis Waitley says that “when we go there in the mind, the body will follow”
I just chose to look at it as . . .
Scouting ahead to something that is already there and then . . .
Returning back to my family to bring them there!
Just for the heck of it . . .
What if you were to look at that thing that you once gave up on
And gave yourself another chance . . .
And scouted ahead as if this already has happened . . .
You involve all your senses (the smells, the sounds etc)
And don’t you dare leave this outer body experience without taking a good look at yourself . . .
Note the look of pride
The sense of accomplishment or
If you’re wimpy like me . . .
Trying hard not to let the emotions of the moment turn you into the male version of Paula Abdul!
Then you return back to the present and take one baby step knowing
It’s already there . . . I just need to go get it!
Bon Voyage!
