Steal This Cold Email Template (I Did)

Posted March 9, 2024

I came across a cold email template yesterday and quite frankly, I fell in love with it.

Here it is, including the graphic they embedded into the email.

Hey Bob.

Sorry, I couldn’t catch you on my prior outreach. That being said, instead of just talking about what Orum does, and why it’s so great, I figured I’d just show you instead.

Would love to see if we could make similar results happen with your team at (name of company) Feel free to book a time (book a time was hyperlinked to their calendar) that works for you.”

What I liked and why;

The email provided “evidence” in the form of actual results for an actual client, not some anonymous company that makes the claim sound and smell like bullsh*t!

Further evidence was provided in the form of a testimonial with the name and pic of the person providing it. I can’t stand it when a company tries to pass off a glowing review with something like “Samantha A, manufacturing company”. In what world does that sound legit?

There’s something they could have done better with the testimonial, but I’m saving that for the webinar I’m doing a week from today.

Also, inserting a graphic slows the scroll when busy decision makers attempt to scroll through your email.

Last, but not least, the email is brief. 200 words or less is optimal and it falls right in there!

What I didn’t like and why;

I didn’t like the first sentence (“Sorry I couldn’t catch you on my prior outreach”)

Why?

Because that’s what shows up in the preview text and in 9 times out of 10 it will play out in a way that has the reader thinking “This is a sales email”. It probably won’t get opened.

Would have been way better if they had used a little mystery in that first line to ensure that the email would be opened.

They also made two HUGE mistakes with this email that I took the liberty of removing, but;

I will share what they were and why you should avoid doing it during our email webinar on Friday.
