Imagine, if you will, being a decision maker.
Think about all the things you would be responsible for and then imagine;
The number of interruptions you would face on any given day!
Now continue to imagine, a phone call (one of many that day) interrupting what you were doing.
How quickly would you judge the value in continuing, versus getting back to whatever you were doing before the call?
Gold star if you said,“Within seconds!”
In other words . . .
What you say in the first few seconds of a cold call, will either capture a decision maker’s attention, or lose it fast enough for your call to begin a downward spiral!
A typical cold call begins with something about the rep’s solution, the rep’s company, etc., but;
Nobody gives a sh*t about that during the first few seconds!
Instead, lead with something about the decision maker’s world.
“I noticed that . . .”
Within the first few seconds of your call, make it about THEM by using a phrase like “I noticed that __________” and then tell them what you noticed during your research.
Example: “Hi Amy, Paul Castain from Castain Training Systems, quick question; I noticed that you’re hiring a bunch of sales reps in New York”
End that statement with a question so you subtly take control and;
You create a dialogue.
So take a look at WHAT you’re saying.
Tape your end of your cold calls and listen to HOW you’re saying it;
And consider modifying your message to maximize the first few seconds.
