The problem with “Whatever It Takes” is that it can easily take too much of the REAL things that matters most to you . . . away from you.
I’m all about focusing on the prize.
Giving it my all but . . .
Someday I’ll cross a finish line with my career and even if . . .
I finish with a billion dollars in each hand . . .
I will consider it a failure if those things, that I value most . . .
Were lost along the way!
So by all means “Do what it takes” but . . .
Do what it takes with balance and RESPECT for the other things that can become casualties along the way!
I would imagine the feeling to be quite sh*tty when one is on their deathbed . . .
And so desperately wanting a “Do Over”.
Today is all about doing “Whatever it takes” . . .
To live a full life . . . with no regrets!
Peace!

Paul – I think this is about what is really important. Do you define yourself by your job/career or are there other things that make you who you are?
The journey is a long one. It can take many directions along many paths. Stop and smell the proverbial roses along the way. You’d be surprised at how good they smell.
He who dies with the most toys does not necessarily win.
Cheers,
Marc
Those roses sure do smell good Marc!
Thank you for reminding us!
“Whatever it takes” is open ended. . . everything and everyone has limits. Trying to push beyond them isn’t really possible without proper training/coaching. But even with that being said – the person being trained/coached has to want to change/try new things for it to be effective.
I know some sales people who never give themselves a break – but they can’t – it’s part of their DNA to push themselves and never be satisfied. I know of others who have become satisfied over time – but don’t think that their contributions are valuable because THEY ARE! I think where you end up is more about who you are rather than a decision.
And who you are can be improved with proper coaching, working for the right company where opportunities abound and having a great supportive working environment. I’ve said this before – you can’t make people sell, you can only provide them a good working environment and support them while they sell.
Amen Paul! Done it! Got the tshirt and Now I strive for balance. The family is always first.
Great priorities Pete!
Thank you!
For about the last 10 years, I have said that I would take a day off each week in the summer, to either go to the beach, or play golf. It hasn’t happened yet, and I do regret it already. For those of us who saw a very strong work ethic in our parents, it is hard to break the mold!
I hear ya Francey . . . perhaps there’s some kind of compromise between what you’d like and what you think you should do. Maybe every other week or even a few hours early?
Thank you for taking the time to stop by and share your thoughts!
Well said Paul!! Never heard of someone on their death bed saying I wish I would have spent more time at the office.
Very true Toni and even if they have a ton of money on their death bed . . . you can’t buy your life back!
Thank you and have a fantastic weekend!
You are right, I used to teach “Whatever it takes” but it can take more than it is worth. It’s not worth losing my family etc.
I totally agree Donny . . . nothing is worth that my price!
Thank you for stopping by!
very well said.
Thank you so much!
Thank you Paul, I love this thought. There are many forks in the road throughout my day in business and my personal life. When making a descision I always try to think, “What would I teach my kids is the right thing to do?”
“What would I teach my kids is the right thing to do?” . . . I love this Rita!
Thanks!
Paul, again right on target. I think we all think to some extent we are invisible and will always have another day for those that are THE most important to us — but the reality is — there are no guarantees in life. So absolutely DO live each day with no regrets.
AMEN Lynda . . . Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Have an awesome weekend!
Good timing Paul. Sometimes it’s easy to get wrapped up in goals, achievements, and earning…but in the end none of those things come first, do they?
Thanks.
An all caps WELL SAID Gary!
Thanks!
Paul,
I’m new to your blog, and wow, what a great first visit! Thanks for reminding all of the overachievers out there that it’s a crying shame if your family is collateral damage for your ambition.
