I received a cold email today that never had a chance, in fact I didn’t even open it
Why?
Let’s take a look!

First of all, the subject line (Meeting Request) contained an ask BEFORE any need, value, etc., had been established.
It also told me immediately that this was a sales pitch BEFORE I even opened the email.
Don’t ever reveal your hand in the subject line like that!
The point of the subject line should be to intrigue the recipient enough to open the email.
Let’s take a look at the preview text (the part that begins with “Hello Paul”)
Once again, it’s too revealing, and if we’re being completely honest;
There’s nothing in that preview text that would make you say “I gotta read this!”.
The last mistake is a huge pet peeve of mine and it’s referred to as a “breakup” style tone “Just to follow up one last time”.
I’ve never been a fan because it makes it almost impossible to reach out again and why would I give a sh*t if you never contact me again, in fact;
Thanks for volunteering to go away!
Last, but not least, and I want this last point to really, REALLY sink in;
As a decision maker, I get this email several times each week and there isn’t a thing about it that differentiates the sender.
My guess is that the prospects you’re emailing are tired of the same emails too, and;
Even if they aren’t, I’m willing to bet that many of your emails aren’t opened simply because of the reveal in both the subject line and the preview text.
