Two Things To Do (Immediately) Once You Connect With Someone On LinkedIn

Barring any “Buy from me” messages on LinkedIn, what typically happens after you accept someone’s invitation to connect?

Nothing, right?

Well that’s just silly!

Why invite someone to connect and never say a word to them?

“But Paul, I don’t know what to say!”

How about “Thank you” as in . . .

“Thank you for the invite Jennifer” or

“Thanks for accepting my invite Todd”

This one, simple step, separates you from all those who DON’T interact and;

It sets the tone for a more SOCIAL relationship.

Now, if you happen to receive something like this after you connect with someone (and I really shouldn’t have to tell a grown up this) . . .

Respond

And please don’t confuse using the thumbs up icon as a real response.

There’s nothing SOCIAL about ignoring your network!

The second thing you should do (in that same “Thank you” email) is conclude that email with a question.

Why?

Because questions invite dialogue

Dialogue breaks down barriers and creates comfort and familiarity.

Comfort and familiarity makes it easier for people to buy from you and/or refer you!

Certainly more than when you did absolutely nothing after “connecting”, right?
