I was running the other day at 90 mph with (gusts up to 120) when a text message came in from my wife who was also running aggressively. I’d love to tell you it was some warm and fuzzy “Love ya darling” message, but my wife and I generally don’t roll like that. Little did she know that in the background the radio station had just started playing our song.
Note: When you have a song from 1983, its really cool when you hit a rare day when someone is willing to play a 27 year old song.
It was in that moment that I realized my wife and I were getting “caught up” in life so I decided to stop time and send her the following text:
“By the way, ‘Just you and I is on the radio’ and I wanted to tell you I love you”
She had responded back with the obligatory “I love you too” and “I haven’t heard that song in years”
I decided not to let that moment go so I added one more text “Me neither, I have it on my I-Pod, let’s listen to it together tonight”
And so two well intentioned souls did a fine job of NOT listening to their song together that evening.
And rightly so, because . . .
She had to drive my son and his friends to go hang out somewhere.
I do all my writing after dinner and have a book to write.
Surely, a stupid song could wait?
If only it were that simple. I didn’t even realize that this was blown off until I went to bed last night. Nice one Castain! Gangsta of love . . . NOT!
So I set my alarm for 5 this morning and made a breakfast fit for 2 people who fell in love when they were 17.
No kick ass breakfast should go without a soundtrack so I made sure our song pulled up a chair next to us.
In that moment I was able to stop time and focus on something that can’t ever be taken for granted.
So with that, today is Saturday and you have numerous opportunities to stop time in your own way
Think:
Significant others
Family
Friends
Something selfish just for you (come on you earned it dude)
Spiritual
Physical
Something Charitable
Something that needs to be said
A fence that needs to be mended
Bottom Line: Don’t ever let life rob you of the things that matter most!
And should you decide to stop time, give yourself the ultimate gift of being fully present and then . . .
Catch yourself totally digging the moment.
Here’s to conquering the world at home today!
