If you’ve followed me for a while, you know that I despise the “hustle porn” crowd. You know, the ones who brag about still being in the office at 10:45 pm, getting up at 3:00 am, and how weekends are for lightweights!
I do think there are seasonal exceptions!
Take this time of year for example;
I know that come Thanksgiving a lot of my opportunities fall off a cliff.
The VP’s of sales that I sell to are so absorbed in “year end” that they feel it doesn’t make sense to discuss training.
If we’re being totally honest, I also deal with a TON of people, who mentally check out after hearing the first Christmas song of the season.
But here’s the thing;
Everyone acts shocked at how slow things get at the holidays, but;
Holidays weren’t just invented!
I mean, we know they’ll be here, and;
Things will slow down considerably, but;
What are we willing to do about it?
Here’s what I decided to do about it;
For the last several weeks I’ve been gradually increasing my activity.
I’ve been making more calls.
Sending more emails.
I normally speak with 3-5 of my LinkedIn contacts per week, I’ve increased it to 10.
I’ve increased the amount of snail mail I’ve been sending to 75, handwritten pieces per week.
There’s more but let’s answer the burning question;
“How can you possibly find time to increase your activity when you have a substantial client base and you’re the only person in your company?”
I’ve been putting in overtime on the weekends, early, BEFORE my family gets up!
I’ve been writing handwritten notes.
Shooting videos for the embedded cold emails I send.
Sending no strings attached resources to my network so I can stay “Top of mind”.
Reaching out to my contacts on LinkedIn to set up calls.
Sending “Shock and awe” kits to get the decision maker’s attention.
Researching the companies on my call list for the upcoming week.
My family time never suffers and;
Come December, I’ll have more time with them anyway when things slow down.
People love to say that ‘Sales is a marathon, not a sprint’ and they’re right, but;
That DOESN’T give you a license to run at the same pace during critical stretches!
In the years that I’ve been doing this, I’ve noticed a SUBSTANTIAL increase in my pipeline that;
I desperately need once people stop taking new appointments until after the holidays!
Perhaps this is a way for you to do the same?
