You’re handed a list of accounts that once worked with your company but left for various reasons in the last few years.
Your mission is to re-establish communication and ultimately win back the business but;
When you make that initial call, you’re told
“We worked with your company before and that’s a mistake we don’t want to repeat!”
How would you respond to that?
You want them to hear you out, and give you a chance, but their statement sounds rather final, no?
Well for starters, (and forgive me for going all “Sales 101″ on you”) you should expect to hear that and have a premeditated response.
My suggestion would be to first try and find out what went wrong and then ask the following question;
What would you do if you were on the leadership team and you kept hearing feedback like that?
A typical response to that question might be;
Well I’d make some changes
That’s when you say;
And that’s exactly what we did and I was hoping for an opportunity to share those changes with you.
Does it work 100% of the time?
Hell no but;
It helps you find out what went wrong.
Puts it out there that changes have been made and;
Hopefully piques their curiosity enough to want to learn about the changes that were made.
I asked this question in our Sales Playbook group on Facebook and received lots of great answers from your peers.
