I don’t think anyone would disagree that to a buyer, most sales reps sound the same.
In sales, we often nod our head in agreement that we need to stand out and then;
Proceed to do all the things that make us sound EXACTLY like our competitors.
Like asking cliched questions!
You know, like . . .
“What keeps you up at night?
“On a scale from 1-10 how is your present service?”
“What would it take to make them a 10?”
“If you could wave a magic wand and have the perfect _____________ what would that look like?”
“How does that make you feel?”
“If I could show you a way to _______ would you _______?”
The problem with a cliched (and oftentimes corny) question is that they irritate someone who values their time.
When that happens, you AREN’T creating rapport, credibility and;
Your prospect WON’T take you, or your process seriously!
And then there’s this . . .
Ask a crappy question and you inspire a crappy answer!
Whether you like it or not, people judge you and they never stop so;
Consider this an invitation to ask the questions your competitors FAIL to ask and;
If you must ask a cliched question;
At least have the creativity to ask it a different way!
