Your Prospect Is Judging You (Even More So During Troubling Times!)

Prospects judge us!

Not once;

Not twice . . .

Always!

They judge us more during troubling times!

Why? Several reasons!

For starters, some of them have more time on their hands and they are visiting their social networks more frequently.

Hopefully they see things that underscore how you ideally want to be perceived.

Or they see the dopey sh*t I’ve been seeing lately, like;

Someone mentioning that “I’m bored, so I decided to create this cool avatar”

Another person posting (during the work day mind you) that they were able to get in 15,000 steps. They followed that post up with pictures of their kids playing at their computer and a “before and after” shot of a backyard project.

Note: This person ISN’T the victim of a layoff. They are still employed.

Others get political (and not just a little).

Don’t get me wrong . . .

I think it’s important to show our human side, but;

In many cases, it’s gotten silly!

Prospects have also become more judgmental because now, more than ever, they can’t afford to make a mistake, a wrong move, a bad decision!

To that end, you need to understand how people typically judge us;

How We Look

How We Act

What We Say

How We Say It

Where We Say It

With Whom We Say It

What Others Are Saying About Us

My suggestion would be to take some time to think about how you might be coming across in each of those areas, then;

Understand that whatever we say and do, repeatedly, over time, becomes linked to us.

So if I constantly see you posting politics but meanwhile, you’re an incredible management consultant;

Politics wins because that’s the way you’re continually showing up!

If you’re brilliant at showing companies to do more with less but you continually post avatars and tell me about how many steps you did today;

Your true talents are never demonstrated because they are masked by the repetition of your frequent actions.

If you are always pitching your prospect and never giving, being helpful, or adding value? You’ll be seen as insensitive right now.

Spewing messages of gloom and doom all the time? Do you think people will think you’re a bundle of positivity and gravitate towards you?

Always giving, NEVER selling? You’ll probably condition prospects to take and not associate you with someone to buy from, simply because;

They’ve never seen that side of you.

So give it some thought.

Think about how you absolutely ARE being judged right now;

Then make sure that EVERYTHING you say, do, etc, underscores how you’d like to be perceived by your prospect!

How To Prospect Differently During Covid-19

“What should my sales messaging look like during the Covid-19?”

I believe there are two extremes many of you have embraced, and I’m really NOT a fan of either one!

One extreme is to go all salesy and bombard your prospect with messaging. Definitely NOT the time for that!

The other, is to sit it out and AVOID selling which is a fabulous way to go broke!
