3 Ways To Be More Confident During A Negotiation

Confidence goes a long way in sales especially;

During a negotiation!

Here are 3 things that will make you a more confident negotiator.

First, you need to be able to walk away and not give a sh*t.

That doesn’t mean that you’re allowed to be arrogant or cocky.

It doesn’t mean that you’re allowed to treat the other party like they’re inferior to you or that they don’t matter;

It means that you need to ALWAYS have other things you’re working on so that;

You have the luxury of only working the deals that are truly a win/win instead of;

Deals that make you feel like you just sold your soul!

Reason #10,000 why you need to work a consistent prospecting plan!

Second, you need to know clearly What’s Out Of Bounds.

What’s the lowest you’ll go?

What are the minimum terms that you will accept (payment, shipping etc)?

When you have it clearly defined, you can react accordingly or better yet;

Be proactive enough on the front end;

To keep the ball going anywhere near the “out of bounds” marker.

Third, you have to know HOW to negotiate!

You need to be able to spot standard tactics that WILL be used against you and;

The countermeasures at your disposal.

My Father In-Law Taught Me Something Interesting About This

Many years ago, I turned to my father in-law for some business advice.

He told me that in business, there are these standard situations that you find yourself in and;

Knowing that, we need to develop standard responses so we’re always prepared.

Let’s look at this through the sales lens;

The average sales rep knows that when they cold call there are standard objections like “not interested” “too busy” “no need” etc and yet;

They choose to wing it instead of having standard responses at the ready.

The same holds true for how the average sales rep embraces negotiation.

They know its a possibility and yet;

More often than not, they fail to have standard responses to standard negotiation tactics.
