I watched “Dave” present to a group of would be entrepreneurs.
Everything up until this one point was all facts and figures then;
He stole everyone’s heart and made multiple sales that day.
How?
He needed to have EVERYONE in that room understand that our franchise required a commitment, NOT a goal.
So he told the story of when he asked for his future father in law’s permission to marry his daughter.
He painted a picture of a nervous young man who upon asking for permission was told to “Take a seat”.
After studying Dave for what seemed like an eternity he said;
“I have only one condition and I’m afraid it’s non-negotiable”.
He described another pregnant pause but “pregnant” really isn’t a word you want to use when you’re a young dude asking for permission to marry someone’s little girl.
“I want you to love her and I want that to ALWAYS be your priority”
Then Dave made his point about commitments versus goals.
He turned to the group of people somewhere between all the “AW, that’s sweet” and a few people who were visibly choked up and said;
“Now can you imagine if I said, ‘Sure. Tell you what, I’ll make it a goal’. How do you think that would have worked out for me? There are some things where you just have to fully commit. That’s what we’re looking for here”.
And with that corny little story, he connected with that room and;
He had their complete understanding of what it was going to take to be successful in one of our franchises.
And that’s the awesome thing about using stories in our sales cycle;
We create emotional buy in.
We create connection.
We help people understand a point, or our purpose;
At a MUCH deeper level.
