It’s a phrase that is hardly ever asked but believed to be implied.
“How can I help you?”
Ask your network in your first status update of the day “How can I help you?”
Ask your clients “How can I help you?” . . .
Don’t ask the question when you are looking for a check.
Veteran Sales Rockstars . . . ask the new dude/dudette “How can I help you?”
Sales Managers . . . Ask your team . . . “How can I help you?”
Opportunities to serve have this weird way of finding their way back into your wallet as well as your heart.
So please allow me to practice what I preach . . . How can I help you? Feel free to contact me privately paul@yoursalesplaybook.com

Paul – how can I help you? Seriously….email me.
LA
Well I just received a notification that you bought my book so I’d say you already did Ms Palamar 🙂
Thank you so much!
Why yes I did. Fabulous book. Going to post it as a link in my LinkedIn Update.
Hi Paul, What do you respond when you are asked that on LinkedIn?
I am a sincere padwan seeking knowledge as when I reply to that usually I do not get a response. My reply is generally “I would like to learn what you feel made you the success you are today.”
Simple but effective!
Thanks Jedi Master!!
Thanks Peter!
Paul, great article! You probably don’t remember (I don’t blame you) but you’ve been very helpful to me in the past through email exchanges. I want to offer something to your other readers that helped me get a job offer.
I was speaking to friend who asked me “how can I help you find a job?”. He offered to send an email out to all his contacts promoting my availability and did just that. That helped but it was what he said to me during that conversation that really changed my attitude.
He commented in his email that I …”is one of the brightest, hardworking, high integrity sales professionals I ever
had the honor of working with.” He then verbally told me that he really meant it. He pointed out that I have a history of superb success in selling even when my product wasn’t as good as the competition’s. He then commented that I should be excited now that I’m selling a superb product as well…myself!
With that said, how can I help you? Your readers?
I think that’s a wonderful idea Mike and it just cost us a little time and care.
Thank you sir!
Paul,
I am curious…what kinds of requests/questions have you been getting after you have asked that question day in day out “how can I help you”?
Thanks,
Tony Pita
At first, none at all because people have a natural tendency to either distrust or feel funny asking.
After a while, people started asking, mostly for advice.
And here’s the funny thing Tony, I had more than a handful of people reach out to hire me as their coach.
Note: I never once said that I was looking to be paid and my offer to help as a friend was quite sincere.
I think as people continue to see me showing up day in and day out asking that question, they will come forward and present their challenges.
Thanks for asking 🙂
I think you should ask for advice, an intro, etc. We obviously don’t ask to borrow a few “G’s” until payday 🙂
Paul, you’ve already helped me. You’re a daily inspiration. Keep up the good work, buddy! Great example for the rest of us!
