3 Things You Should Include In Your Plan To Sell More In 2018 (And One Thing You SHOULDN’T)

I’m hoping by now that you are either done or pretty far along in your plan for 2018.

Since there’s no shortage of content offering advice on how to set your goals (Do we really need another post on S.M.A.R.T. goals?);

Let’s talk about 3 things most sales reps forget to include.

An Honest Assessment Of Their Sales Chops. If you’re going to seriously kick ass next year, you really need to look in the mirror and know where you need a little polish.

I created a FREE checklist that will help you do this. Please click HERE to download it.

A Plan To Get Better At Their Craft. You can tell me all day long that you’re going to sell x amount of business, land so many “whale accounts” and even outline the activities you need to do to get there but; you’re kidding yourself if you think you’re going to get there WITHOUT developing your sales chops.

A Person Who Guides You and Kicks You In The Ass. The beauty of having a great sales coach is that they’ve already traveled the road you’re trying to travel.

The beauty of a truly amazing sales coach is that they aren’t going to put up with your bullsh*t! They will hold you accountable, call you out and help you see the “lesson” when you miss the mark (we ALL miss the mark by the way. A great coach isn’t afraid to tell you what they do when they fall short).

I put together a FREE guide on How To Hire A Sales Coach. I’ve loaded it up with the questions you need to be asking anyone you’re considering as a coach. You can download it for FREE by clicking HERE.

The One Thing You SHOULDN’T Include In Your Plan

This one is going to be harsh so let me give you a virtual hug before we begin.

Ready?

Lose your f*cking ego!

Seriously, lose it!

We are by far, one of the most egotistical professions on the planet and in some ways its a good thing.

How’s that?

Well our ego protects us from the rejection and let down but;

It also hurts us in keeping us from being;

A Humble Student Of Sales

It has us dismissing things as “Sales 101” and meanwhile if it were truly “Sales 101” we’d actually be doing it.

It has us thinking we’re too good to train or hire a coach.

It keeps us from being humble enough to ask others for help

It keeps us from asking those who are kicking ass how they’re getting those results.

It has us pushing back on our manager because we can’t handle criticism (I used to be that guy)

It has us making excuses as to why we’re not taking the time or investing the money to get better at our craft.

Here’s the thing . . .

While you’re setting your goals (and hopefully the activities to achieve them), make sure you include the 3 things I mentioned earlier in this blog post and;

Exclude your ego!
