We had an interesting discussion over on our Facebook page the other day.
I asked the question, that we’ve all considered at least a few times throughout our lives . . .
“If you won an obscene amount of money and could retire today . . . would you keep doing what you do for a living? Would you do something else? Retire?”
We had over 30 comments ranging from spending more time on charitable causes to traveling to exotic places. Some people said they would do something else others said they would keep doing what they were doing.
It was a fun discussion and I could sense a strong sense of passion behind the words that were shared.
And now the bad news . . . until we win the lottery, we’re pretty much screwed!
If we keep thinking that way!
I wonder if we truly need a windfall to finance our dreams?
Perhaps we’ve set the bar too high?
Meanwhile, the inevitable “dirt nap” (as Dennis Lynn had called it as well as the Old dude’s father in Grumpy Old Men) inches closer with every breath we take!
Life is short and you and I are probably not on the same time line as our creator. Life’s funny that way, but we’ve seen it all along.
I wonder if we could all try a little exercise . . .
Ask yourself this question, in silence, and write down your answer.
“If you won an obscene amount of money and could retire today . . . would you keep doing what you do for a living? Would you do something else? Retire?”
Step away from it for 24 hours and then go back for round dos (that’s Spanish for 2)
Ask yourself; “how could I do these things?”
Note: We’re not asking “CAN I do these things?” We’re presupposing that we already can and just need the HOW.
Step away from it for another 24 hours.
Ask the “How question” again as if you’re missing something that would show you how.
Time Out . . .
Don’t write something off simply because you can’t do it today.
Perhaps you could create a savings plan, put aside frequent flyer miles etc?
Maybe you could begin to get involved with that charity you would love to get involved with full time but can’t.
Maybe you can begin studying all about starting a business now but here’s the thing . . .
Don’t give up on something just because you don’t have the means to acquire it today.
After putting off my dream for over a decade, I decided to begin living it in 2011.
The sense of joy that I’ve experienced has been wonderful.
The money will follow, but even if it doesn’t . . .
When the dirt nap shows up at Uncle Paul’s door I’ll have no need to ask for a Do Over!
Today you are invited to stop dreaming and simply . . .
BEGIN!
Are you up for the challenge?
