If you’ve been reading my blog lately, you should know how I feel about the holidays.
On one hand, nobody is going to out “Christmas” me in terms of how much I get into the holidays but;
On the other hand, I think it’s ridiculous, how we have allowed, what should be a week (at best) of holiday slow down, to turn into a 30-45 day mental sabbatical.
As a small business owner, I simply can’t afford that type of income and activity.
There are a lot of things that I do to keep this from happening (including ramping up my sales efforts months BEFORE the holidays hit) but;
There’s one thing that I started doing that has exploded my revenue.
When I tell you what it is, you’ll have an urge to dismiss it because of it’s simplicity, so let’s make a deal;
I’ll share what it is, and when you find yourself saying “Duh. Like who doesn’t know that?”, you have to ask yourself “But am I actually doing what Paul is talking about?”
So here goes . . .
First, I decided to challenge all the bullsh*t excuses I had been telling myself about the holidays.
You know, “People really don’t want to talk about this stuff when they’re winding down for the year” “Nobody wants to meet” “I’m wasting my time, trying to sell this time of year because _____________-”
Let me give you one example.
In the past, I believed that nobody wanted to purchase a webinar that would be taking place on December 17th.
a) Perhaps it’s too close to Christmas and they’re mentally winding down
b) People don’t have the money that close to Christmas
So I decided to challenge myself (and you guys too) and host a paid webinar, this Thursday, the 17th.
And here’s the funny thing . . .
I’ve already beaten my best webinar sales (where I had 6 weeks to promote it instead of 2) and it wasn’t held so close to Christmas.
So I guess I was the only thing getting in the way of my own sales, huh?
The second thing I did, was to challenge anyone (in a real respectful way) who tried to blow off meeting with me or hiring me until AFTER the holidays.
In most cases, I could tell that I caught my prospect off guard, and that no one had ever asked them “Why not now?”
It made me think that the reason why so many people tell us to call back after the holidays is because nobody ever challenges it. In other words . . .They tell us to call back after the holidays, because they can.
In other cases, when they told me why, I countered with a compelling reason why they should consider NOW instead of after January 1st.
Did I win every deal?
You bet I did! Actually I didn’t, but it felt really good writing that.
All joking aside, I set more appointments this year and closed more business in December, instead of after January 1st, than any other year since I started Castain Training Systems back in 2011.
These results happened because I had the guts to . . .
a) Challenge my own limiting beliefs about selling during the holidays and . . .
b) Challenge the beliefs of my prospects about meeting/buying during the holidays.
