Please Don't Ever Do This On A Holiday

It’s my hope, that through this blog, you get to learn from my mistakes!

And there was an absolute horrific mistake I was making.

When I had lost everything back in 1995, I began to reflect on the wrong things at the holidays.

Any time a holiday came around, for about a 2 year period, I thought about how I failed and let my family down.

I thought about how I couldn’t afford to give my kids the Christmas they deserved and worse yet, I compared myself to others.

I felt like I wasn’t valuable as a human being. As if human value is determined by how much we have in the back.

It became so bad, that I began to hate the holidays because I was focusing on what I didn’t have instead of what I actually had.

If I Had It To Do Over Again . . .

I would thank my creator (as I do now) for another holiday that I get to celebrate.

Take gratitude inventories of the things that I ACTUALLY have in my life instead of what I don’t have.

Stop comparing myself to others. Who really gives a sh*t about them?

Stop putting an unnecessary burden on myself and lighten the hell up.

Allow myself to embrace the gift, the magic and the joy of the holidays. It’s there, but sometimes we need to look a little deeper!

Realize that no matter how bad we think we have it, somebody can one up us.

I would have embraced giving earlier. Giving takes the focus off of us and it actually makes you feel quite wealthy.

And finally . . .

I would have reminded myself that I’ve only been allotted so many Thanksgivings and Christmases during my life time and perhaps . . .

they would be better spent savoring them!

Today, you are cordially invited to give yourself a break.

Let go of any unnecessary, self inflicted burdens.

Enjoy your family and . . .

Enjoy your life!
