It’s the official start of summer here in the states and I’m always ready for that.
I love this time of year!
It’s also a very dangerous time of year for your success because you might lie to yourself.
Lies like . . .
“I won’t reach prospects because they’re off on vacation”
“Everybody mentally shuts down until Labor Day”
“I bust my rear so I deserve to check out for a while”
That, my friend is how you invite your competitor to come eat your lunch!
And let’s set a few things straight . . .
Take a chill this summer, in fact take several!
Get home for dinner every now and again even if it means leaving the office early.
Enjoy your summer because quite frankly, life is way too freakin short!
But . . .
If you completely check out and basically take the next few months off . . .
It will take you months to recover that loss of activity and your pipeline will suffer.
Slow down . . . DON’T Check out!

Is anyone really in the position to do this right now? I mourn the close of schools and the Ohio government offices cutting down to 4 days per week in the summer. Yikes, I can’t imagine anyone thinking they can check out until Labor Day in this day and time.
I agree Cheri and you’d think this one gets an immediate “Duh” but people mentally check out this time of year regardless of the economy.
I first noticed this in the printing industry 20 years ago and the best part of it was that the same folks complaining about the economy and business were mentally checked out after Memorial Day.
Oh well . . . more for us Cheri 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!
Paul, slowing down is not confined to the sales department. We see the same thing in marketing. Companies are relectuant to do lead generation, PR, etc… because “everyone is on vacation” and “no one responds to promotions in the summer.” Actually I’ve had some very successful campaigns in the summer, probably because the competion is taking the time off. Successful marketing and sales requires year round aggressiveness.
That’s a great point Christopher and opportunities in every department don’t stop because its summer.
Thanks for stopping by!
