The "Beach Chair Jedi"

Posted June 6, 2011

Life is such a balancing act. Isn’t it?

On one hand, we want to conquer the world and get a fresh ding in the universe, on the other, we want to enjoy our lives.

There is a middle of the road you know!

Enter the “Beach Chair Jedi”

This time of year is the perfect time of year to take your favorite beach chair

and make some of your calls outside!

Stop by the local park at lunch time and do some of your work while digging a great summer day!

Managers, you can become a way cool “Beach Chair Jedi” by taking that staff meeting  outside!

How about surprising your kid by showing up to practice or their game?  Sounds like a rather special “Beach Chair Jedi” moment!

I would keep a beach chair in the trunk of your car because sometimes the best “Beach Chair Jedi” moments, are those that come to us rather spontaneously!

And you know what folks? Sometimes we need to know when to shut off work so we can make it home in time to be a “Beach Chair Jedi” at home too!

Paul Castain trains organizations & individuals to be lethal! For more information on the specific jedi like services Paul offers, by all means click here dude!

  1. Great idea -just moved a client meeting to outside by the lake ( a short 5 minute walk) instead of their office.  A change of scenery and some fresh air is great for creativity.

  3. Great advice Paul!  When Sales Calls are not scheduled and you have some reading or phone work to do, no place better than Mother Nature’s Office.

This time of year can be quite stimulating!

    Cheers!

  5. It was 80 and humid at 5:30 this morning so I think I will allow you to enjoy  the outdoors for me.

  6. Great advice, Paul. There is a lake about a 10 minute drive from my house that has a short order restaurant with a big deck. I love to go there in warm weather to have lunch. It really give me a chance to clear my head before going back to work.

      1. No problem, Paul. There are plenty of seats that are never completely taken. I’ll hold you to it. Just let me know your arrival time at the Sacramento International Airport. The end of this week looks as the rain will have ended and temps should be in the 80s.

  8. Hi Paul,

Funny that you blogged about this today because I took my laptop outside today and called to customers from my “Jedi Beach Chair”. It was so awesome and the energy was great!

Paul you are the rock star!

  11. You’re making me wish I was back in college…sitting outside, watching people play ultimate frisbee on the field, relaxing and enjoying class (on the front steps of a castle, no less). Shame this desktop computer doesn’t travel well…

At any rate, enjoy your outdoor jedi-ing.

    1. Sounds like a great memory TJ. I could actually picture the game of frisbee (my memory had some cold beverages in it)

      Thanks for stopping by!

  12. It is important to live your life, but you don’t want to do it on the street. Finding a way to balance your work life and your private life is important and the only true way to happiness and sucess.

  14. It’s funny how I stumbled on to this post the same day I bought 2 new chairs for camping. Maybe I should go back and get another “spare” one for work related “appointments”. Do you think I could expense it?

The problem here north of the border is that I could be a beach chair jedi, snow jedi or a rain jedi. So I will have to pack the chair, parka and umbrella. I still like the idea of getting out of the office. I think I will now be a Postman Jedi by not fearing sun, rain, sleet or snow. Does that work? Can I trademark it – lol.

Just have to find a weatherproof laptop 🙂

Thanks so much for the awesome post and the chuckle it has given me. Greatly appreciated.
