There was this episode of Lost where one of the characters (Charlie) knew that he would be dying shortly.
He began carrying a piece of paper and would scribble a one sentence description detailing one of his fondest memories.
He had things on the list like his Dad teaching him how to swim and his brother giving him a special ring that had been in the family for years.
It made me think how many of us have a “Bucket List” of the things we want to do before we die but;
Forget about the highlights of all the wonderful moments that comprised our life.
For me, it was things like . . .
The first Christmas I was old enough to go to midnight mass and my Dad cooking us all breakfast afterwards
Watching Heat Miser and Snow Miser sing that song with my Mom and laughing until we cried!
My big brother Michael buying me my first watch as a kid. It made me feel like a grown up!
Being 17 years old and seeing this hot girl in my chorus class and thinking “Holy sh*t (the rest of this sentence is intentionally left out because I ended up marrying her and her Dad still intimidates me)
Watching the soon to be “Mrs Uncle Paul” walk down the aisle. Not to many people know this but my lip freakin quivered. I felt like a puss but I don’t remember caring too much!
Every moment that I held one of my children in my arms for the first time. I felt like the luckiest man on the earth (21 years later I still do)
I’m leaving out the rest but I do believe you understand the point!
I’d like to challenge you to take a few moments over the next week and reflect upon your life and your own, personal,”Top 10″ moments.
You will feel joy and gratitude. You will laugh and you will cry.
When you finish the exercise, say “thank you”
To your creator or if you prefer “the universe” and if you’re fortunate enough to have some of the people still in your life that made your “Top 10”;
Thank them too!
