You send a cold email and they don’t respond. What’s your next move?
If you replied, “I forward the original email with a comment like ‘What are your thoughts?’” please hang your head, because that’s exactly what you SHOULDN’T do.
Why?
a) It lacks creativity and its lazy. I mean, you couldn’t come up with another email or better yet, a different type of touch?
b) Whether you intend to do it or not, a forwarded email has a certain “Hey dumb ass, respond to my email already” vibe to it.
c) Since way too many of your peers are doing this, it’s really typical, and;
You’re not going for typical here!
So What SHOULD You Do?
If you are insistent on following your last email, with another email, change the flavor of it. In other words, don’t say the same, identical, thing.
Note: When you say the same sh*t, over and over, you condition people NOT to read your email. Why would they?
First, start from a place of providing value because there’s a really good chance the lack of value in your previous emails got you into this mess in the first place!
Consider sending along a resource that can serve them.
How about an idea, no strings attached?
How about playing matchmaker and introducing them to someone who could buy from them, help them, open new doors for them etc?
Send them an invite to something that would be beneficial to them.
Ask a question that provokes thought.
Send them something timely and informative. For example, right now decision makers are thinking about year end, the new year, the holidays, their customers shutting down for the next few weeks, their own employees mentally checking out, employee turnover (higher this time of year) etc.
The point, is to keep the courtship interesting, because “interesting” helps people stay interested;
Long enough to go the distance with the courtship!
So here’s the tough part because its a reality check you might not want to come to terms with;
