It’s a little something called “sending and receiving emails” and according Radicatti Group, the average person sends and receives 110 of those bad boys each day.
I’m not sure if you realize this but . . .
There’s a hidden “screw you” in those numbers.
If you’re like most people, you feel that the world will end if you don’t stop what you’re doing and check your email, the moment the alert hits your phone/computer screen.
By the way, that email, most probably interrupted something else you were doing.
Just for fun, consider the time it takes to read the email, respond to the email and then the time to get your head back in the game (this is referred to as “resumption lag) and you just lost some time.
Multiply that by 110 then by 5 work days and then 52 work weeks and you have 28,600 of those moments.
Moments that probably DIDN’T have to take you away from something else and;
moments that could have been diverted and bundled so you could have managed your day better.
Something to think about next time that Pavlovian urge hits!
This is one of many of the tips we discuss in our on-demand, time management course.
