Hands down, the single craziest move I ever made, was walking away from my position as a Vice President for a billion dollar company.
The timing was lousy in many ways because my wife had just finished surgery for early stage breast cancer, my oldest son was a year away from the first college check I’d have to write and we just had way too many things going on at the time.
Even still, I was done!
I was tired of living a life that was pushing my dream of “someday” closer towards “probably never”.
It was making me feel very empty, very disappointed and quite frankly, it was sending me 90 miles an hour into a deep depression.
I had a long talk with my wife, emptied out two bank accounts and started Castain Training Systems.
In some ways, because of all this blogging and social networking, I was fortunate because within 30 days I lined up 15 corporate training gigs and had 30 people who signed up for my coaching program but here’s the thing . . .
There was this 30-45 day period where no cash came in and yet . . .
I woke up each day with a feeling of joy that I had never experienced in my working career.
I finally felt a purpose and a feeling that I had taken the driver’s seat!
I get postcards from exotic places where my clients get to go because they made President’s Club. I get emails with pictures of newly completed in ground pools that they thought they’d never afford and I get quite a few emails from their bosses too 🙂
Being miserable sucks and I can’t believe that we do our best work under those conditions.
Here’s the point of all this . . .
You and I are on borrowed time.
Some of us kid ourselves into thinking we’re on the 85 or 90 year plan when in fact, we might only be on the 50, 60 or in my dad’s case, the 65 year plan.
Life is way to short to spend it being unhappy.
Life is also way too short to keep putting it off!
So this isn’t about walking in to your boss and quitting.
It’s about getting back to a dream that you gave up.
3 years later, I’m still a million short of becoming a millionaire but somehow this whole “trainer of sales rock stars” thing seems right.
And did I mention that I’m at peace?
I hope you’ve found yours and if you haven’t, I encourage you to make it your priority!
Your turn . . .
