I love technology in fact this blog comes to you because of technology.
You know and interact with The Sales Playbook brand because of technology and . .
Hopefully you are getting to know me because of technology.
But there are times when it gets in the way.
It keeps us 24/7 . . .
when 24/5 might suffice! 🙂
Think back to the 18 year old version of YOU.
That dude/dudette lived for the weekend . . . because back in those days the week ended and didn’t continue!
Then you grew up, grabbed what experts call a crap load of responsibility and combined that with the technology to keep the week continuing . . . instead of ending!
String enough of those together and I believe we’ve just defined TREADMILL!
I will be the first to confess that some of my weekends or more like week continuations but I’m aware of it, and do what I can.
How about you?
Will there be a Week End or a Week Continuation?
The next 2 questions are more difficult . . .
Why?
Does it really have to be that way?

Paul,
I believe in the week end. I need time to recharge the proverbial batteries so I tend to disconnect over weekends. There are times when I must get work done and I will if necessary. I try to limit that and spend time more leisurely.
I have seen workaholics get burned out and, while they think they are performing, they are really doing themselves and their companies a disservice by constantly burning the midnight oil.
Cheers and have a nice WEEK END!
Marc
PS – this weekend, golf, football, and some other meaningless and shallow pursuits. 🙂
Me too Marc and your “PS” outlines a perfect example of a “week end”!
Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for the reminder Paul!
Wishing you a safe and happy weekend!
P.S. – Love the video!
Thanks Elena . . . I still like that song God knows how many years later 🙂
Morning Paul,
I tend agree with the other posts and that wacky guy Marc! While I will get things done on the weekend that need to be work wise, I too need the weekend for the pursuit of happiness with my Wife and my hobbies.
Though owning your own business, especially with your office in your house it can be tough to actually get away, I also don’t want to be accused of be dull as Jack.
I don’t think any of us will be lying on our death bed saying…damn I wish I would have worked more!
Have a great weekend Paul!
Cheers,
Larry
Thanks Larry . . . Wishing you a great weekend as well!
Great topic Paul!
It is funny you bring this up but this has become a big pet peeve for me and personally shows coldness to this technology in that emails are being sent without human intervention. What I mean by that is they set these blasts up and let them go! The only good news is for print I believe marketers are beginning to realize people just delete them. I have made a policie that any of these work related groups that i belong to that email me on the weekend i just delete!!
Enjoy your Weekend everyone!!!
Paul M.
I agree it is sometimes hard to unplug especially when the BB makes it all so easy. I turn off the email notification sound on the weekend but keep the ding sound for texts and BBM’s(those are usually not work related anyway.) I need to keep my time open to taxi my kids to hockey, baseball, volleyball and whereever else they expect me to take them.
Been there done that but not anymore. Reached the stage where I want each and every weekend with my wife. Missed a few decades worth and for what? To say “hey look at how busy I am?” No, if it doesnt fit within the 60-70 hours Mon-Fri I’m sorry but not interested anymore.
Remember this quote my friends: “We live the life we lead.”
Congrats Patrick! This is how you live!
Hi Paul,
agree with you, my 18 year old version definitely lived for the weekend. Who of us really liked the school and the grades for stuff you really didn’t use anymore since you left these days behind.
Today, however I don’t want to live for the weekend but want to live 24/7.
Why you want limit your life to the weekend only? That is like “Gifts only on Christmas”.
If you love what you are doing (hope so), do your really need to take a break from that? The thing what we need to make sure of, is that we do not get so caught up in our passion that we forget everything else around us. For that I say, revisit your time management skills and see that you schedule your activities in a way that you live a balanced life. As we should not be caught constantly working, we should also not be caught up in the 5/2 routine. Weekend work is allowed if we make room for the “Week End” also outside of the weekend, just as we hopefully sometimes give a gift even it is not Christmas.
Cheers
Roy
