I witnessed something yesterday that was pretty damn cool to say the least!
Someone asked a question in my friend Pete Primeau’s Facebook community.
What’s cool about that?
Nothing yet because you didn’t let me finish the story 🙂
Now you guys all know the deal;
When people ask questions or demonstrate a need for help, whether it’s in their status update, in a group, a forum etc, it’s a great time for us to demonstrate expertise (and overall value) by offering our help.
That’s the part where you all get to say “Duh” but . . .
Someone took it to a whole new level yesterday!
Instead of offering a written answer to this person’s question, Doug Stewart made it more personal.
Doug went in to his Evernote app and recorded a brief (2 minute) recording where he called the person by name and talked them through a few suggestions.
He even included photos of the books he recommended for her to read.
He then shared a link to that recording and photos.
There are several things that make Doug’s approach awesome.
1) Who the heck does this? What a great way to stand out and be memorable.
2) Doug was helpful and not salesy. Unfortunately too many reps see a cry for help as an invitation for an immediate sales pitch.
3) Doug demonstrated his expertise and established a position of authority, inside of 2 minutes.
4) Hearing someone’s voice adds personality and clarity to the message. You know what they say about the written word, right?
Doug received a warm (and public) response from not only the person who asked the question, he received a great response from others who listened to the message.
So there you have it folks . . .
Another way for you to stand out, demonstrate your expertise and become more memorable in the process.
Your turn . . .
What do you think of Doug’s approach?
FYI . . .
