I learned an important lesson in the last two weeks that almost cost me north of $15,000!
I pissed off approximately 30 people and my thinking was “I was right and they were wrong” Yep, pretty dumb on my part, but please read on!
For over two months I promoted the heck out of a new online course we eventually launched on September 17th!
One thing I know about you guys is that (like me) you’ve got a million things going on and silly stuff like your personal development get forgotten about right quick.
Actually, that’s not completely true. I meant to say, you have a ton of things on your mind and then the iPhone 6 came out and, well, you know the rest.
I touched on this several times and even mentioned how people get mad at me when I tell them a course is either filled to capacity or the course has started and we can’t accept additional registrations.
Then the you know what hit the fan!
We launched the course and over the next week, 30 people wrote me asking if they could still get in to the course.
When I (politely) told then “no”many people gave me an earful.
I was annoyed for them and quite selfishly for me too because I have found that there’s never a shortage of things you can do with an $15,000+ as long as I hide the extra income from my wife.
If we’re being completely honest here, my inner idiot wanted to say “Are you freakin kidding me? For two months I did the online equivalent of parading down your block wearing a sandwich board to promote this program, and now, because you sat on your rear, I get to be the bad guy?”
Then the stupidest revelation came to me . . .
Because of my stubbornness, I created a lose/lose scenario x’s 30!
So instead of asking everyone to wait until January (as originally planned) I embraced this really cool thing called “flexibility” and decided to add another program on October 23rd!
People were happy
25 of the 30 people have enrolled so far and Uncle Paul learned a really important lesson about rules, being right and flexibility!
Enough About Me, Here’s YOUR Takeaway . . .
Sometimes we have policies and procedures in place that aren’t as customer friendly as we’d like to admit.
And sometimes these silly policies remain in place simply because no one had the guts to challenge them internally.
Sound familiar!
