Sadly, 60-80% of prospecting emails are never even opened let alone responded to!
We lose them at the subject line by either using words that scream “SALES PITCH!” or words that send your email to the spam folder.
If we make it past the first checkpoint, we typically lose their attention at “Hello”.
Why?
Because our prospects are sending and receiving anywhere from 110 emails per day to over 250+ per day at the C-Level! They simply can’t process that many emails without scanning and making really quick decisions as to whether the email is worthy of their attention!
How?
By either saying something silly and time wasting like “My name is Paul Castain _______________” or cliched and salesy like “We’re a full service printer” “One source solution” One stop shop” instead of speaking about something more relevant to them.
At that moment we’re knee deep in boring our prospect because we sound like every other email they’ve ever received!
And for the grand finale, many sales emails lack a simple, clear cut, easy to understand and execute “call to action”
Actually, I Saved The Best For Last . . .
That email you’re about to send is hitting the inbox of someone who, in the next 24 hours . . .
Will be exposed to 3,000 advertising messages according FastCompany Magazine
Will be interrupted from what they’re doing 7 times per hour according to Wendy Cole from Time Magazine
Will be engaged in multiple phone calls and receive mucho voicemails.
They will have internal/external meetings and in many cases have internal/external customers that need to be tended to.
They will have fires to put out and deadlines that will hijack their attention.
Imagine Consuming 1 1/2 Novels Each Day!
The average person consume over 100,000 words 34 gigabytes of information according to University of California, San Diego.
Here’s a visual to help you imagine what this looks like. . .
Go to your book shelf and grab one book you love and one book that sucked.
Put a saw to the book that sucked and saw that bad boy in half and then put it next to the one you loved.
You should now be looking at 1 1/2 books (unless you got creative with your sawing)
1 1/2 books worth of content is what you and your prospects are consuming each day and on a related note, I bet another blogger that I could make a few people saw a book in half.
But It’s Not Your Fault!
In your defense, you have this highly distracted buyer being approached on an incredible noisy channel.
So they’re going to ignore you and judge you and most probably delete you.
So it isn’t your fault unless . . .
You keep sending the same boring email and refuse to dedicate yourself to getting better at it!
